This event is popular so we’ve added a second event.  Saturday June 11, 10:30am- 12:00pm as well as April 30, 10:30am-12:00.

So, who do you think lives in the creek? Maybe fish? Frogs? And of course tadpoles? But who else? How about crustaceans? I mean crayfish or crawdads, of course. And how about aquatic insects? Did you know that about 5,000 species of insects in North America spend some or all of their lives in water? Wow, there’s a lot to learn!

Saturday, April 30th, 10:30am to 12:00pm. This event will be led by Dr. David Grant, a Professor Emeritus of biology at Davidson College, a consultant with Discovery Place, and an adjunct curator at Schiele Museum. Dr. Grant also led the very popular Spider outings last fall.

Dr. Grant will meet participants at Erwin Lodge and take them to a nearby creek where they will discover and learn about what critters live there.

Minimum age is 5 years old.  This is open to children and their families.  Please:  no strollers and no dogs.  Be sure to wear sturdy footwear that can get wet (e.g., a pair of old sneakers—boots won’t work as well, as water just comes in through the top!).  Also, wearing long-sleeved shirts would be a good idea, as you will be on and off the trails in open woodland.

Please contact us to enroll.
