Green Ball

The Environmental Action Coalition of Davidson College hosted students, professors, and community members at the 6th Annual Green Ball!

The Green Ball is a contra dance and chance auction fund-raiser held on behalf of the Davidson Lands Conservancy.

A contra dance is a social dance featuring live music and rotating dance lines, with many of the steps borrowed from square dancing and line dancing. It is fast-paced, fun, and easy to learn.

The evening included a brief lesson for beginners with local caller Dean Snipes, live music by Asheville-based band Appalachian Storm, a chance auction, and local-food refreshments catered by the Eco-House. All proceeds (approximately $1800) were donated to the Davidson Lands Conservancy.

Each spring, the Davidson College Environmental Action Coalition hosts the  Green Ball – an evening of bluegrass and contra dancing enjoyed by students, professors, and local townspeople.  Proceeds are donated to the Davidson Lands Conservancy.  DLC is grateful for EAC's continued support!

In 2009, the dance and accompanying silent auction netted $2,350 for the DLC!

Come join us!  Free lessons are given before the dance begins, so you don't have to know how to contra dance!
