What:  Davidson Lands Conservancy Bee City Festival and Nature Celebration

When: Sunday, October 21, 2-5 pm

Where:  Abersham Park, Davidson, NC

The Davidson Lands Conservancy is celebrating Davidson’s recent designation as a “Bee City USA!” We’ve activities for all ages, plus a fun, dynamic speaker, Phyllis Stiles, of Bee City USA. Celebrations will include:

  • Davidson Lands Conservancy and WOW-World of Wonder
  • Davidson Green School
  • Audubon Society
  • TreesDavidson
  • Dearness Gardens
  • Bee Demonstrations
  • Kids’ Activities and Nature Walks!

Named the 2015 Pollinator Advocate of the Year by the North American Pollinator Protection Campaign, Phyllis Stiles is founder of the Xerces Society’s programs Bee City USA® and Bee Campus USA. An Asheville resident since the 1970s, Stiles has spent her career serving communities from West Africa to the Mississippi Delta. Her days are now filled with learning all she can about pollinators, native plants, pesticides and what people can do to sustain the hundreds of thousands of hard-working pollinator species that sustain our planet. Her talk will begin shortly after 2pm.

Parking: There are two entrances to Abersham: (1) off Grey Road; and (2) off Shearer Road. There is parking at the Shearer Road entrance. From there, you walk (or bike) down the hill to the Festival area. From both entrances, you can drive to the lower level parking area. However, parking is limited there. We’d like to keep that parking area for those with mobility issues or with very young children.

Please note: The road through Abersham is one way. It is also shared by pedestrians and cyclists, so please drive slowly and carefully. Also, on parts of the road, you must keep to the left, not the right. Look for DLC people with safety vests at the entrances. Thank you!

Be sure to bring water, as there is no water source available. We’ll have bins for recycling water bottles.

In case of inclement weather, this event will be located at the Lilly Family Gallery, in the Chambers Building, at Davidson College. (200 D Road; parking on Main and Concord Streets) Check DLC’s Facebook for weather updates.

This event is open to all! No pre-registration required. If you’ve any questions about this event, send an email to [email protected].
