What would you like to call the recently acquired 243-acre park property that was formerly the Abersham luxury home project?
Mecklenburg County, with assistance from the NC Office of the Trust for Public Land, has purchased this tract of open fields and mixed woodlands adjacent to Fisher Farm Park on Shearer Road east of Davidson.
Submit your proposed name for this new park by Wednesday, October 19 using the ‘Contact Us’ link at the top of our website. The Davidson Lands Conservancy will collect the entries and recommend them to the Davidson and Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Departments. Should it be named for significant natural features, animals, plants? — a past landowner or prominent area resident? – a conservationist or recreation leader?
The selected name will be revealed at an open house on the property on Sunday, November 6, 4:00 PM, when signage with the new name will be unveiled as the culmination of an afternoon of nature activities on the site. The public is invited to explore the “park-to-be”, which includes
- ~2 miles of paved roads,
- 7500’ of paved greenway,
- 4000’ of stream bank on the West Branch of the Rocky River,
- ~101 acres of Mixed Mesic Hardwood Forest, Dry-Mesic Oak-Hickory Forest, and Piedmont/Mountain Bottomland Forest,
- ~ 1 acre of planted pecan grove,
- Remainder in open field
