Last Sunday, November 6th, we hosted our 16th Annual Meeting for the Davidson Lands Conservancy. About 40 folks gathered at Erwin Lodge on the edge of Davidson College’s campus to celebrate DLC’s past year. The meeting was led by incoming Board President, John Burke, and we heard reports from various Board committees who shared what they had been working on this year. We said farewell to three outgoing Board members, Glenn DeGeorge, Pam Hay, and Rob Van Epps, and re-elected the following Directors to an additional term: Hayden Boyd, John Burke, Kay Fisher, Clay Furches, and Rodney Graham. We also welcomed our new Board officers for the year:

President:  John Burke

Vice President:  Clay Furches

Secretary:  Lyn Batty

Treasurer: Rodney Graham

Former Board President Pam Dykstra shared the successes of the World of Wonder (WOW) program this year, including weekly environmental ed. activities at the Davidson Farmer’s Market, and frequent nature outings for children and their families. Dr. Pam Hay also gave a talk on invasive plants and led us on a short hike around the property to identify various invasive plants that we will likely see at our own homes. Board member Christine Lisiewski, a pollinator/native plant specialist from Dearness Gardens Nursery, also had a selection of native plants on hand that members could purchase that would serve as alternatives to invasives in the home landscape.

The DLC would like to extend a huge thank you to Frances Dawson and the Davidson Rotary Club for a $500 donation that Ms. Dawson announced at the meeting.  We would also like to thank Davidson College for allowing us the use of the historic Erwin Lodge. It was a beautiful, crisp fall day- a perfect one to spend celebrating DLC’s work, and looking towards 2017.
