Earth Day is April 22nd, and the DLC encourages you to start celebrating early by attending our Toast the Earth fundraiser on April 13, 2012 from 7:00-10:00 p.m. The Davidson Lands Conservancy (DLC) invites you view nature-themed artwork and to sample an array of North Carolina wine, beer and companion foods at its third annual Toast the Earth event held at the Homewood Suites by Hilton® , at 125 Harbor Place Drive in Davidson, NC. Toast the Earth is a fundraiser for DLC, Davidson’s own land trust, whose mission is to protect natural areas and open space in and around Davidson.
The wines for the event will be provided by two local vineyards, Davesté Vineyards and Shadow Springs Vineyard. Davesté Vineyards is located in Troutman, NC, and features a wide range of popular favorites including Merlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as varietals rarely grown in North Carolina, such as Malbec and Rkatsiteli. The Shadow Springs Vineyard of Hamptonville, NC, enjoys the distinction of being certified in two Vitacultural AVA’s, namely the Yadkin Valley and that of Swan Creek. Eight separate varietals are grown at the vineyard, consisting of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Chambourcin, Viognier, Chardonnay and Seyval Blanc. From this diversified range of grapes thirteen distinct wines are offered to the discerning oeneophile.
In addition, the popular Davidson restaurant, Flatiron Kitchen and Taphouse, will provide a selection of craft beers from Highland Brewing Company of Asheville, NC. This year, DLC has added a selection of outstanding foods from Healthy Home Market in Davidson to complement the beer and wine.
Toast the Earth will showcase local artwork depicting nature. We will feature the work of eight local artists, who will be displaying their work and offering it for sale. Four artists will display exquisite nature photography, two artists will display creations in wood, and two artists will display acrylic paintings depicting nature.
Between wine and beer tastings, guests will be entertained by harpist Jane Sprinkle and guitarist Randall Sprinkle, and will have an opportunity to mingle with the artists, meet others, and see food presentations by Charlotte Living Magazine Food Editor Heidi Billotto and Beverly McLaughlin of Beverly’s Gourmet Foods.
Tickets are $20 each/$30 pair, and may be purchased at the door, or on Eventbrite – click here. For further information, you can also e-mail the DLC directly at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call Roy Alexander, Executive Director of DLC, at 704-892-1910.
