WOW- 2018 The Year of the Bird!

Posted on 12. Jan, 2018 by in WOW! Blog

2018 Has been declared the Year of the Bird because it is the 100th anniversary of the passing of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act which was an attempt to protect all native birds. In the 19th century people became aware that some species were becoming extinct. The Migratory Bird Treaty Act, passed in 1918, was the United States’ attempt to turn the tide on extinction of birds.

Four organizations have joined together for The Year of The Bird: National Geographic, Audubon, The Cornel Lab of Ornithology and Bird Life. All of them have websites with great information. I’ll include links below so you can learn more. Most of all I would encourage you to fill your feeders and watch the birds in your yard or go out for a hike or a walk and pay attention to the birds you see. Enjoy birds this year and every year. I’ll be posting things throughout the year about ways you can help preserve our native birds.
