WOW-A visit to the Davidson College Campus Arboretum

All of us who live in this area know how lovely the Davidson College Campus is.  But you may not know that it is a registered Arboretum. It has long been a part of the mission of the College to make the campus a place of beauty and to display much of the variety of trees and shrubs that will thrive in the Piedmont of North Carolina.  As a part of this effort most of the trees on campus are labeled with metal tags giving the botanical and common names of the plant.  This makes Davidson College an ideal place to learn about trees.

On Saturday May 9, 2015 a group of families with children had a chance to explore part of the campus with an expert leader. Thank you, Irvin Brawley, for helping us discover trees up close! We measured trees with hugs, discovered unique bark and cones, gathered leaves and made leaf rubbings – and left with a new appreciation for the trees in Davidson College’s Arboretum.
